This past weekend, I spent it at Sea to Sky Stunts training with some stunt friends. One of my goals for the weekend was to spend some time applying wire work to throws to make them look more spectacular. The one we worked on specifically this time around was tomoe nage (stomach throw). You can see the results in the video below.
It must be said. This stuff should not be attempted without proper training and experience to prepare you for it. You should have plenty of experience with breakfalls and a good understanding of how the wires affect your movement. The reason for this is that there are a lot of factors at play. The energy I put into the initial engagement, the energy the person throwing me puts in, and the energy and timing of the wire pull all factor into what happens, as you can in the video. If you get an extra half rotation more than expected or land past the crash pad, your body has to be trained well enough to make the necessary adjustments to protect yourself. That being said, if you do have said training, this kind of wire work can be a TON of fun. 🙂
