Over $500 Raised for Flood-ravaged Sicamous

We at Pacific Wave Jiu-jitsu believe in giving back to the community as a dojo. Recently, in conjunction with BCIT Jiu-jitsu, we held a “Water Balloon Revenge” event to raise funds to donate to flood-ravaged community of Sicamous, BC. Every summer the Canadian Jiu-jitsu Union holds its summer camp there so a number of member dojos decided to raise funds to help the community in different ways. We decided to have a bit of fun with it and give students a chance to “take revenge” on their Senseis by buying water balloons for $5.00, which they could throw at a Sensei of their choice.

We managed to raise over $500 with all proceeds from the balloons being donated to theĀ Eagle Valley Community Support Society, which supports Sicamous in times of need (like now). Check out the video below for a recap from the event. Or check out the photos on our Facebook page.

  1. Funny, especially seeing with how much gusto those balloons were thrown. Lori’s pose was hilarious: reminded me of the movie Scarface at the end when he gets gunned down. In fact if you had used that line (“I’m Tony Montana, if you f*** with me you f*** with the best”) I’m sure it would have been a garanteed youtube hit.

Btw, it’s quite clear your students are trained to go for the groin at the first opportunity. Did it actually hurt or were you just acting?

    1. Actually, that one did hurt. It nailed me right on the sensitive skin of the inner thigh next to the groin. It left a red welt so yeah it was a little sore. All worth it for a good cause!

      1. You’re my hero (lol). That really was above and beyond the call of duty: either you’re a masochist or you’re a better person than me… Then again , aren’t we all a little masochistic? Pain and martial-arts are pretty much inseperable after all.

I must say this is an original way to raise money for a good cause. Maybe I should suggest this to my sensei? Too bad we’re a little low on students or this could actually bring in some dough. I know I’d pay for a chance to hit him in the groin without fear of repercussion.
